Nov 22, 2022Horror is one of the best antidotes to the poison the world system throws at us on a daily basis. With this film, the British outshine again. A brooding, slow-paced mystery, this story ranks right up there with another UK favorite also concerning a wounded child and his arrested development as an adult--SPIDER. Life can, and often does, bring us loads of anguish. The only reason I won't give this one a solid 10 stars is because there is no solution to the psychological terror the protagonist suffers--there is no resolve. Many, many films in our day have no resolve, so this is nothing new. The problem seems to be, though, that writers and directors simply do not know what to do with childhood trauma--do not know about the great comfort that the love of God can bring to any soul, no matter what level of Hell they find themselves in. And you just can't talk about what you don't know about.
