Oct 21, 2024Not worth a watch, don't bother wasting your time. Unrealistic shark behaviour, horrible editing, sharks look horrible and terrible acting but not sure if it was purposely meant to be a little corny. The poor storyline put the icing on the cake as it doesn't really make sense. Not worth a watch, don't bother wasting your time. Oct 19, 2024DONT GO SEE THIS MOVIE I won't waste time going into each individual detail of this movie as every single aspect of this picture is horrendous, unless you would like to watch the worst cgi, silly death scenes and poorly scripted love story then stay clear of this movie, it's incredible that between the movies director, producers writers and editors of this movie not one of them could see that this should not have gone any further than the script, the movie focuses on the wrong main character entirely when there was a much more interesting lead they could've chosen, do not waste your money on this.

Oct 19, 2024A WASTE OF TIME - A CRITICAL REVIEW OF "SOMETHING IN THE WATER" "Something in the Water" is a cinematic disaster that fails on all critical aspects, from the script to the execution. This film is a clear example of how not to approach the shark survival genre. Here is a detailed analysis of why this film deserves only one star. WEAK AND PREDICTABLE SCRIPT The script is extremely weak and filled with clichés. The plot follows a group of friends who face a shark while adrift at sea. Instead of presenting something new or intriguing, the film recycles the same old tropes we've seen in dozens of other genre films. The decisions made by the characters are absurdly illogical, making it impossible to sympathize with or care about any of them. INADEQUATE AND UNBELIEVABLE RESEARCH The lack of research on shark behavior is glaring. The portrayal of the shark in the film is completely unrealistic, from its size to its predatory actions. This is especially frustrating given the easy access to accurate information about these animals. Films like "Jaws" set a standard for shark depiction, and "Something in the Water" fails miserably to follow that example. FORCED DIVERSITY AND DISCONNECTED THEMES The attempt to insert themes of diversity and global warming is so forced it becomes almost insulting. The inclusion of lesbian characters and the mention of global warming seem more like a superficial attempt to tick boxes on a political agenda rather than to enrich the narrative. These elements are introduced so awkwardly that they end up being unnecessary distractions rather than meaningful additions to the story. MEDIOCRE DIRECTION AND ACTING The direction is basic and lacks any creative vision. The actors' performances are exaggerated, and the dialogues are forced and unnatural. The attempt to create drama among the characters, especially with the central lesbian relationship, is superficial and does not contribute to the tension or development of the plot. Instead of creating empathy, these moments end up being irritating and unnecessary. POOR QUALITY VISUAL EFFECTS AND CGI The visual effects are one of the film's weakest points. The shark's CGI is incredibly poorly done, which removes any sense of danger or realism. The scenes that should be tense and exciting become laughable due to the low quality of the special effects. CONCLUSION "Something in the Water" is a complete waste of time. With a predictable script, inadequate research, forced diversity, and poor visual effects, this film fails on all levels. The only emotion it provokes is the frustration of having wasted time watching something so poorly executed. For those looking for a good shark movie, this one should be avoided at all costs.

Oct 19, 2024This film was absolutely fine, but don't be expecting anything new... you won't find it here. I liked the characters, they had a strong friendship and on the whole they behaved fairly sensibly. The actresses did a fine job. And the setting is beautiful. So that's all good! The problem is that we've seen it all before... it's very predictable and that's a real shame. There also isn't enough shark/s in my opinion- which unfortunately makes it a pretty tame watch. It's one of those movies that you'll watch once and that's it. Definitely doesn't compare to the likes of The Shallows or even 47 Metres Down.
