Oct 18, 2022Pretty much nothing else happens, what a waste. And how confusing that the adult Celeste had a stronger accent / affectation than teenage Celeste? Felt like all actors did as well as they could with this, except Natalie Portman's performance really verged on pantomime at times. But it was really unclear what this film was trying to say, and by the time we got to the pop bit, Portman was downright unconvincing. Which is surprising for an actor that trained so hard / convincingly for Black Swan.

Oct 18, 2022What the heck? Some boring scenes (a crowd walking down the street, cars passing on the road, etc) went on far too long, so I fast-forwarded. The young Celeste singing, and the songs, were horrible. How the world could that have created a star? I wouldn't have paid a nickel for any of that "singing ". I had to fast-forward all that, too. Flat, cardboard character in the young Celeste. By the time Natalie Portman came on screen, I was so bored and irritated I didn't really care about the character. And it didn't get a lot better. I began this movie because I truly like Portman and Jude Law. I thought with both of them in it, the movie should at the very least be interesting. Wrong. Not sure how both usually good actors got entwined in this mess but it proved to me that just because good actors are in it doesn't mean it's going to be a good movie. A waste of time.
